ORIGINS

The first recoding of the Walsh's in Ireland was Philip Brenagh (aka Walsh). In early Irish records the Gaelic form Breatnach or Bretnagh or Brenagh were in use but were anglicised to Walsh. Philip Walsh was the hero in a naval battle in 1174 who saw off the Danish Kings Son, Mac Turger.
