WHISKEY GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Pot Still Whiskey

Traditional name given to Irish Whiskey which is made from a mixture of malted and unmalted barley. Once, it also contained small quantities of oats and rye. Not to be confused with single malt, or pure malt.

Single Malt

Malt Whiskey from just one distillery and not mixed with either grain or pot still whiskey.

Column Still

Apparatus designed for the continues production of alcoholic spirit.

Brewing

Act by infusion, and, with the aid of yeast, of producing alcoholic liquids from sugars present in a solution containing fermented grains.
